Title: CHIMERA
Logline:
Hubris is a surrealist sports drama set on the summer of 1996 when the Olympic Games took place in Atlanta, Georgia.
BELLAMY (32) is a stoic, calculated guy who is shy and highly intuitive. He made the world record in the 100m. track category at the Olympics of 1992. His glory was short-lived as he got injured the following year which prompted him to retire from his running career all together.
In the dawn of 1996, Bellamy and SOLENE (31), his wife, have an abortion by a decision that was instigated by her which becomes the root of some anxiety in their relationship. While physiotherapy is going well, Bellamy's psychological evaluations get worse. The story begin with Bellamy's marriage in shambles and his career consistently in decline.
Hubris was originally inspired by an idea that Neil Gaiman put forward in his book Norse Mythology. In one of the myths, Thor and Loki accompanied by a human man Thales, visit the Cyclops' World to take back something. The Cyclops challenge the brothers in a few feats. One of the feats is a race. Thales is a runner but no matter how fast he runs he can never outrun his running mate. Having failed the feat, the Cyclop congratulates Thales for his effort and reveals to him that "no one can run faster than time".
